My doctor mentioned yoga and meditation, which I thought would be very helpful. I was re-introduced to yoga in early 2013 by teachers of Art of Living, and in my first class I felt I was home! That was the start of a never-ending blissful journey, which I cherish and enjoy every day. I am fortunate to have learnt yoga with amazing teachers at Art of Living under the guidance of my Guru, Shri Shri Ravishankar, and Kylie Hennessey from Balance Yoga, Sydney. In addition, I worked to receive accreditation in the teaching of senior yoga from the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA).
I completed my teacher training with Kylie and gained insight on alignment in asanas (postures) and finding ease at the same time. Yoga goes beyond the mat. We can incorporate in our daily activities, making our lives more enriched and fulfilling. There are many aspects of yoga and beyond asanas; pranayama (breathing) and Dhyana (meditation) is an integral part of Hatha yoga. Beyond these three parts, further exploration brings awareness and discipline which also brings a beautiful balance in life. Yoga teaches us service towards self, our environment, and community. Yoga makes us aware of our eating habits and takes attention towards food we eat. I completed my graduation in Food Technology and further did my Masters in Dairy Chemistry and Microbiology and second Masters in International Public Health. Since 1991, I have been associated with food and clinical research. I have been in direct patient care and remain an integral part of Cancer Research for almost a decade.
I have seen in others the benefits of yoga and meditation being prescribed by doctors in addition to medicines. With an in-depth knowledge of Food and Health, I became interested in Ayurveda (ancient Vedic knowledge of life and longevity). I have received training in Ayurvedic cooking. It was a great experience, my mind was understanding wholesome, holistic nourishment compared to scientific analytical nutrition in the form of a chart. I still have my commitment to work, making a difference in people’s life by helping them access new treatments for different diseases. At the same time, my passion towards yoga guides me to bring much needed relief in society and beyond.
I have experienced the benefits of yoga and its changes leading to betterment. I will always remain a student as yoga is infinite and there is so much to learn. I am passionate about teaching and sharing this precious knowledge with others. Teaching comes from personal practice and it is about guiding people to explore and help them embark on their own journey.
